Thanks Mike, The mirror is synthetic and has a layer of plastic film covering it to protect it from scratches, which is removed when the plane is mounted. You've seen the mirrored bottom model car display cases at the hobby shops; these can be used…

Are the mirrors real glass or some other reflective material? Or how do you make the holes through the glass?

Thanks Mike, Yes, the spru studs are inserted into holes that are drilled in the base, the half model is held tight against the mirror and the studs ends are melted. On a small kit like this, that is sifficient. On medium sized kits I still use th…

Darn, that is too cool! I see pegs on the back side of you model, do they mount to the mirror? And if so do you have i drill hole to mount it? I like this this is real neat.

Greetings all, :) I had been wanting to do a "Mirror Image Diorama" carrier-landing scene for a while, so when I was commissioned to build an F-14 recently, I figured it would be the perfect opportunity! I used the Academy 1/14…

Thanks John and Mike, I am retired Army also, stationed at Ft. Bragg the last time from '78 through '81, with Post Avn Div on Simmons AAF. I helped organize the first "Guns A Go-Go" Reunion at redstone Arsenal in '00 and painted the "Nose Art" on t…

Frank To answer your question, yes military subjects do take up the majority of our modeling time. Being that our club is made up of mostly former, and current military it stands to reason. That doesn't mean that we will be intolerent of civillian…

Our club is made up of mostly military modelers, but there are a few off beat builders. We have a couple of wood ship builders which is almost a lost art form. We have a few car modelers. I like to think of my self a modeler that likes to build mode…

Username explanation:

During my years with the US Army, I was in some capacity associated with the Chinook helicopter, thus the stereotypical nickname of "Hooker" applied; and I'm old, so "oldHooker".

Military Modeling Club?

Hello,

Are Military subjects the mainstay of this organization? I understand completely if they are, being in the Ft. Clubs also seem to gravitate toward military building activites, leaving those of us who do non-military aviation subjects without a lot to do as far as participating.

The last club I belonged to tolerated my subject matter until it came time for a group bui… Continue

I am a little baffled on you half planes. Normally when you put a half on a mirror you see a large seam/double image. How is it yours looks seamless? I like your dainty work it is very impressive. I got my start in modeling on civil aviation and I have a few kits in my stash. This could be the motivation I need to get going.
